30CrMnSiNi2A is a low-alloy ultra-high strength steel widely used in Chinese aviation industry. It is modified from 30CrMnSiA by increasing Mn and Cr and adding 1.40–1.80% Ni, significantly improving hardenability, toughness, and temper resistance. After heat treatment, it achieves high strength, good ductility and toughness, good fatigue resistance and fracture toughness, and low fatigue crack growth rate. It has high hardenability, good machinability and weldability, but is sensitive to notches and hydrogen embrittlement (including environmental hydrogen embrittlement).
